Have you seen "The Lakehouse"?

When I married Cindi, I was just 19...

Skinny. Great hair (what happened?). And completely clueless!

There was no way I knew what to really look for in a life partner, or what would be needed years down the track when life gets more complex. Business, mortgage, kids. But we were in love - we got married - the day was beautiful.

But then life hits.

Not in a day or in a moment, but gradually over years, and seasons, and the changes of life.

No matter how compatible we thought we were, we soon discovered we would have to cultivate our relationship towards health.

And I think that gets the heart of the challenge...

We plan weddings, but we DON'T KNOW how to plan a marriage.

We then wake up 7 years into a marriage and compare our normal lives to the latest romance novel or social media influencer, and feel something must be wrong.

So, I decided to sit down with a notepad and write out what really makes a marriage successful.

I wanted to write from the context of the real challenges that people face in their relationships, and give some surprising, and at times counter-intuitive truths that our culture largely overlooks.

These handwritten quotes immediately resonated.

It made me think, what if Cindi and I sat down and just talked - no double takes, no script - just talk about real marriage.

A series worth revisiting regularly

John Mcnamara

Wow! What a great programme of discussions - great relaxed and open style of presentation, with each lesson long enough to give excellent information, and short enough to do in quick bites if needed. This is a series of lessons which one will be able to visit many times, as it’s full of little “Ah ha” moments and timely reminders of what keeps a marriage going. Ben and Cindi have done a fabulous job in putting this very pertinent series of presentations together in such an easy to watch/listen to format, done with good humour, but serious content of great value. I’ll come back to it a few times I suspect to remind myself of some valuable points.

A fresh perspective on what marriage SHOULD be

Chrissy G

We've been married for almost 8 years. We have two small children and my husband and I juggle study and work. Life had become busy, built around routine, and we were spending little time together. We both missed the fun and romance of our early years. The lesson that resonated most was 'Do now what you did at first'. So we've both intentionally gone back down memory lane, and given happy memories new life begun to prioritise time together. It was just what we needed. Thank you Ben and Cindi for this very simple lesson that's made a BIG difference to us.
